In recent weeks the Israeli media has been awash with news linking Hapoel Tel Aviv's Nigerian midfielder Nosa Igiebor with a move to Spanish club Real Betis.
The former Olympic Eagle had been on the verge of sealing a move to La Liga side in a deal estimated to be in the region of €800 000 to €1 200 000, and an agreement that entitled his Israeli club to retain about a 50 percent interest in the player.
However, the move has stalled as a result of the players wage demands.
An official statement released by the Spanish club, which announced the breakdown of negotiations, reads: "The parties had reached an agreement with both the player and his team of origin, Hapoel Tel Aviv, but in the last few hours the player has requested a wage increase that was not already agreed. The club provides this view as a lack of respect, seriousness and professionalism, which it will not accept."
However, according to his agent Atta Aneke, the former Sharks FC and Warri Wolves midfielder has also attracted the attention of clubs in Holland, Russia and in Israel.
