Alex Iwobi and Shaun Fejiri Okenabirhie reject Nigeria call-ups

Posted: 26 July 2012 Time: 10:42

England-based youngsters Alex Iwobi and Shaun Fejiri Okenabirhie have turned down call-ups to the Nigeria Under-17 team.

Arsenal's Iwobi and Fejiri of Stevenage were among those called up after 18 of Nigeria's Under-17 squad failed an MRI scan. But the shotgun invitation directed the players to report within 24 hours of getting the call, with no tickets provided.

It is understood that the boys' parents were understandably unhappy about the poor planning and opted against letting their boys make the trip.

Both players are among several youngsters based in England who have committed to the Nigeria cause.

Failed MRI Scan... spells age cheating. Nonetheless, FA's frustrations must not translate into panic and unprocedural processes.

There seems to be a typo/misprint in this article. The two boys that have TURNED DOWN THE INVITATION DUE TO OTHER COMMITMENTS ARE: ALEX IWOBI (Arsenal FC) and OLUWATOMISIN ADELOYE (Charlton Athletic).

SHAUN FEJIRI OKENABIRHIE (Stevenage Borough FC) is amongst the boys making their way to Nigeria today and are looking forward to the opportunity.
