Word reaching KickOff.com is that Maritzburg United have a R3-million transfer price that they want for Diouf.
It is also understood that the recent interest from Major League Soccer looks as if it will fizzle out. Talks between MLS side Colorado Rapids and Maritzburg United did not amount to anything and the American transfer window closes this coming weekend.
That closes one door, but what about local teams interested in Diouf?
There was talk earlier in the off-season about Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns showing interest. But both clubs have signed new centre-backs – Sundowns have got Wayne Arendse and Pirates bought Ayanda Gcaba.
SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits have also been mentioned as possible destinations for Diouf, but it seems from information gathered that the Clever Boys are happy with their new signings Aaron Mokoena and Thomas Sweswe, as well as current centre-back OJ Mabizela.
SuperSport bought Bevan Fransman to back up Mario Booysen and Thabo September and indications are that they are not prepared to pay the high transfer fee for Diouf, plus his demanding wages.
Could a swap deal be on the card, with Booysen going to Maritzburg as Diouf heads to Tshwane? This could be the final attempt by Maritzburg to move their star man from last season to one of the big clubs up country.
