Orlando Pirates win Mbombela Cup after win over Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 22 July 2012 Time: 08:15 pm

Orlando Pirates' success in domestic football continued when they were crowned as champions of the Mbombela Cup, beating Mamelodi Sundowns 6-5 on penalties.

Andile Jali opened the scoring for Pirates in the 7th minute, before Hlompho Kekana equalised for Sundowns in the 27th.

The match ended at 1-1 in regulation time.

Pirates keeper Senzo Meyiwa was the hero of the day for the treble champions, as he saved Esrom Nyandoro's decisive spot-kick to hand Augusto Palacios's men the trophy.

For their achievement Pirates won R150 000, to donate to any charity organisation in Mpumalanga.

Bucs' Player of the Season Siyabonga Sangweni was handed the captain's armband, as Lucky Lekgwathi watched the game from the bench.

Pirates take on Kaizer Chiefs next, in the Carling Black Label Cup at Soccer City on Saturday.

This Light Skinned Guy must sell this Marabastad Tuckshop now, how on earth can his team loose against Orphans this much. This light skinned Motsepe does not respect his team really. It is not funny anymore, they beat small teams 24-0 and loose against oprhans like no ones business. If you are a soo called big team with 2000 fans, loosing against another soo called big team with 30000 fans makes you to loose respect.
