Matthew Booth has finally put pen to paper on a new deal with Ajax Cape Town.

The towering defender’s new contract was initially held up by a board disagreement.

“Basically what happened with Matthew is that we offered him a 12-month contract and he wanted an 18-month contract,” club PRO Shooz Mekuto told KickOff.com earlier today.

“The 18 months is not a problem, but some of the board members are divided over the decision to give him a longer contract."

But all has been sorted now, with Booth penning a one-year deal with a further year’s option.

“I very happy to remain at Ajax Cape Town and I am glad to finally dismiss all the rumours surrounding my immediate football career. I am an Urban Warrior.

“I have a new enthusiasm for the game since returning from an injury that threatened to cut short my football career. I have settled in Cape Town and my move to the Mother City was made complete by the arrival of the rest of my family. Now that I have signed I can focus on my game.”

Last season Booth made 17 appearances and ended the season with five goals.

17 appearances - 5 goals. :) But, for a centre-half, those are very impressive statistics. A lot of midfielders and indeed some strikers would like records like that. Plus Booth did add a lot of solidity to a porous Ajax defence after he signed.
