Don't miss out: WIN tickets to AmaZulu vs Manchester United and Man Utd hampers!
AmaZulu achieved their best-ever finish in the PSL era last season, finishing seventh.
"Obviously last season we were let down. We started off badly," O'Connor says on the club's official website.
Usuthu did not win any of their first five fixtures in 2011, leading to Manqoba Mngqithi's firing and the hiring of Roger Palmgren.
"The first five games we had two points and that set us on the back foot," O'Connor admits. "We then got back up to the top six and then the last five games I think, towards the end of the season, we let ourselves down again.
"So we need to make sure the consistency is there throughout this year.
"We want to finish in the top four and make sure we take a cup this season."
O'Connor admits Palmgren will be under pressure this season to keep the club up where they left off. The coach recently signed a new three-year deal.
