Rautmann turns down offer to join Nathi Lions

Posted: 13 May 2008 Time: 09:29

Veteran coach Walter Rautmann has turned down an offer to join First Division Coastal Stream side Nathi Lions, insisting that he is happy working away from the discomfort of the professional ranks.

Lions coach Professor Ngubane is on his way out of the club despite having done well by leading the youthful team to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup and finishing third in the league.

Since abandoning his nomadic tendencies last year Rautmann has taken up a new challenge as head of coaching of Value Rockets – a team that will campaign in the Vodacom League next season.

“Nathi wanted me to coach them next season as I believe that their coach is leaving. They have been calling me regularly recently and came to see me last week. But I cannot go there as I am under contract here and have a passion for what I am doing with this club.

“I have a good contract here and will honour it as I want to take this team through to the top.

“Nathi made me a good offer, but money is not everything and I am enjoying my job here. How can I abandon a project that I started? My mission now is to make it into the First Division within two years after which we will work our way into the PSL.

“I am building a team for the future and the progress that we have shown is impressive. I already have players who can make the grade in the professional leagues as they are now fit from the training that I have been giving them.”

The Value Limited Group has bought the franchise of Gauteng’s Vodacom League team BK Callies for R450 000.

Dion Serfontein, the project manager, says the deal has been sealed with Callies’ owner Kiren Benlon.

“Since we already have a team that has been playing games regularly, we will now incorporate the best players from Callies into our team.”

Former Black Leopards, Hellenic and Golden Arrows defender Ryan Hartslief, who runs a player management company, Big Time Sports, has also been roped in as a director at the club.

“Actually, it was Ryan who acquired the franchise on our behalf,” says Serfontein.

Rautmann (62) last coached at First Division FC AK towards the end of last season.

where’s DR NDIVHUHO?

Hey NITO Ndivhuwo is in jail! A woman called me and asks…
“With all the lawsuits going on, I want to get in on some of that action. I hear people are suing cigarette companies because they got cancer and others are suing McDonalds because they got fat.”

Prof : “And which one of those categories do you fit under?”
Woman : “Neither. I just want to know if I can sue Smirnoff Ice for all the ugly men (NDIVHUWO & SADDAM) I’ve slept with?”
