Blessed with natural speed and an eye for goal, Rantie stood out as one of the key players for the Bucs during his loan spell last season and played a major role in their domestic success.
However, the player's impressive form also attracted the attention of European teams who have also approached IFK Hässleholm to negotiate for his services.
"We are still in negotiations to secure the player on a permanent basis," Pirates spokesperson Mickey Modisane says.
"I cannot go into further details regarding these discussions as this may end up jeopardising the talks," he adds.
KickOff.com understands that Pirates are trying to persuade Hässleholm to consider lowering their hefty asking price for the player.
This, however, may see Bucs losing out to other bidders who are seriously considering snapping up the player.
During the 2011/12 season, Rantie scored seven League goals, three fewer than Pirates' leading goalscorer Benni McCarthy.
He also scored his first goal for Bafana last month in the team's 3-0 win over Gabon in an international friendly.
