Neeskens to fine-tune his tactics

Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to Swaziland on Thursday for a two week pre-season training camp that will see them playing at least two matches against Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Warriors.

In the absence of an injured Katlego Mphela who will not be travelling with the rest of the team, Sundowns coach Johan Neeskens will have the perfect opportunity to experiment with his new signings as he fine tunes his tactical strategy ahead of an important season, where he will be under immense pressure to end the club's five-year League title drought.

"We will be in Swaziland from July 12 to 26 and the team will play two matches during this training camp," Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito tells KickOff.com.

"Our training so far has gone very well and both the coaches and the players have been very busy. Our pre-season in Swaziland is very important for the players and it will be the highlight of our preparations.

"Unfortunately "Killer" [Mphela] is recovering so he will not be travelling to Swaziland as he has to follow the doctor's instructions," adds Mosito.

Neeskens, who swears by a 4-3-3 formation, will be eager to see how new signings Emmanuel Baffour, Mumuni Abubaker, Edward Manqele, Alje Schut and Wayne Arendse will fit into his regular core of players.

The practice matches might shed some light on the kind of player combinations the Dutchman needs to employ in order to discover a consistent winning formula that was lacking at the club during their campaign last season.
