Chapman back in the swing of things

Bidvest Wits' Ryan Chapman is getting back in the swing of things

Following a broken tibia in February this year, Bidvest Wits' Ryan Chapman was ruled out of action for the rest of the 2011/12 season, but says he is getting "back into the swing of things".

Before being side-lined with a broken leg, suffered at the hands of Santos' Wayne Arendse, Chapman was in the form of his life as he found the back of the net regularly for the Clever Boys (scoring six goals in 12 starts).

Now, with the 2012/13 season around the corner, Chapman says he is looking forward to getting back on the pitch, but he does not want to put too much pressure on himself.

"I'm feeling good and I'm glad to be training with the team again, but I just have to take it easy and get back into the swing of things – it has been long and I don't want to rush anything because you can always pick up other niggling injuries.

"I'm just going to take it step-by-step," explained the 25-year-old before touching on the difficulty of his recovery period.

"It was tough – I didn't go on holiday, I never really had a break because I had to stay and do rehab. So it was tough because I had to keep motivating myself, but I have got through it and I am glad about that."

There will be a lot of expectation on the shoulders of the striker who showed, when in form, he is amongst the best in the country, but he insists he just wants to play again.

"I would just like to get playing again – that will be the big thing for me.

"It was disappointing for me to get injured, but it is part of football and one of those things that happens.

"I don't want to put pressure on myself – I just want to get back playing again and we will see from there," concluded Chapman.
