Mark Mayambela is confident of making a massive impact at Orlando Pirates this season after being given another chance by head coach Augusto Palacios.

'Professor' was among the players set to be off-loaded during the off-season, but after a heart-to-heart chat with Palacios, the former Bloemfontein Celtic star will now have another shot at impressing The Ghost.

Already a hugely popular player among the fans, Mayambela is in the team to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Black Label Cup on July 28, and he says this gives him a lot of confidence.

"I am working hard at training and have a feeling that this will be one of my best seasons," he tells KickOff.com.

"I am grateful for the confidence shown in me by the technical team and my ambition this season is to work hard and be a regular for the first team."

He adds: "Palacios has always had a special relationship with his players. We spoke about where to improve tactically and he also advised me to utilise my strength more."

Mayambela was also hailed as one of the best players in the PSL by former Arsenal midfielder Luis Boa Morte recently – something which caught him by surprise.

"Boa Morte has played in the best league in the world, so it was amazing to receive such kind of words from him."
