The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper parted ways with The Students yesterday afternoon, with assistants Ashley Makhanya and Erick Tinkler taking over in a caretaker capacity until a replacement is found.
De Sa has endured some bad press in recent weeks after his former partner, Nicole Henderson, made allegations of threatening behaviour against him, but he insists that that had nothing to do with his departure from the club.
“Look, the new CEO Jose Ferreira came in and obviously they decided it wasn’t working,” he tells KickOff.com. “They think they need someone else to take the club to another level and that’s their decision.”
De Sa also shed some light on the allegations made against him by Henderson, saying “the truth will come out”.
“No, that [the allegations] had nothing to do with it [him leaving Wits]. Look, I didn’t go to court to defend myself and I’m not prepared to get involved in a slanging match with her in the media. She made allegations which she took to court and that was then leaked to a Sunday newspaper.
“I will have my day in court and then the truth will come out, but I’m not prepared to discuss the issue in the media.”
Gavin Hunt has already ruled himself out of the job, with Ruud Krol and Antonio Habas thought to be among the early frontrunners to replace De Sa.
