Maazou remains one of club’s top targets as the Chilli Boys look to make a great impression in their first season in the Premiership. The club unveiled Manqoba Mngqithi as their new coach yesterday.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Mpengesi said he was making drastic efforts to bring the Niger international striker to South Africa.
"We are talking to the player and his agent and are hoping something will be sorted out to allow him to join us, despite reports that he has already signed in Tunisia. We are still confident that he will play for us next season."
Chippa unveiled Niger goalkeeper Lossény Doumbia as one of their new signings yesterday.
Mpengesi also confirmed that Niger national team striker Idrissa Saïdou's papers have been sorted out and he will be playing for Chippa.
Saidou joined United towards the end of last season, but struggled to get his work-permit in time to play in the Promotion Play-offs.
Meanwhile, Santos defender Nasief Morris has been linked with a move to the club.
