“We have to incorporate African flair because that is what we do well,” the former Moroka Swallows coach says.
“We also need to play a lot more attacking football; we need to play with wingers, we need to attack, we need to get behind defenders, we need to be compact and organised and disciplined. But, more importantly, we need to score goals and we are capable of it.
“It will be all about keeping possession of the ball, playing much quicker than we have been playing, and playing with wingers and getting balls into good areas.”
igesund also believes the players need a change of attitude if South Africa are to win again.
“I think the players are just demotivated; they have been really down, they didn’t know how to score goals, they have just lost all their confidence and I believe if we can bring this confidence back you going to see a very interesting Bafana Bafana.”
Igesund, though, while confident he can turn things around, is under no misconception as to the difficulty of the task that lies ahead.
“I’m under no illusions of the tough task that lies ahead, but with the right people around me and the commitment and attitude of the players, playing with passion, we will change the style, and I think we will do well.
“I certainly wouldn’t have taken this job on if I didn’t believe we can do it,” the 56-year-old says.
