This after Chippa boss Chippa Mpengesi said last week that he will not be making any changes to the coaching or technical staff.
Mngqithi has been without a job since last year after leaving Usuthu due to poor results and was later replaced by Roger Palmgren.
The coach is expected to assist current coach Roger Sikhakhane guide the team in the Premiership next season.
"Both Chippa and Mngqithi had a successful meeting last week in Johannesburg and the former AmaZulu coach is expected to travel down to Cape Town to conclude the deal with the club on Monday," says a club source.
Chippa have already signed Scara Mnguni, Cyril Mashego and Lizo Mjembu to reinforce their squad.
