Orlando Pirates new signing Mpho Makola says he is not fazed by the tough competition for a starting place at the club.

Makola signed for Pirates last week, after going AWOL after five years at Free State Stars.

The Alexandra-born midfielder says he is already anticipating a great season with the Treble champions.

"I know there is competition in big teams like Pirates and [Mamelodi ] Sundowns but there is also competition in small teams like Free State Stars," he tells KickOff.com.

"I joined Pirates knowing very well about the competition at the club but I want to continue where I left off with Free State Stars and take my football career to another level."

Makola has reunited with Oupa Manyisa and Patrick Phungwayo, who he played with at Harold Legodi's Africa Sport Academy.

"I am very excited about joining Pirates and I'm already looking forward to the start of the new season," the 27-year-old says.

"I have always played against Patrick Phungwayo and Manyisa, so now it's exciting that we will be playing in the same team."
