The former Groningen and NAC Breda striker had initially hoped for a role at SuperSport United, butKickOff.com understands this avenue was closed by the board of directors and now Salmon says he will look beyond Matsatsantsa.
“I have wanted to go into youth coaching for a while now,” the 34-year-old says.
“I know I need to get my international coaching license and Holland is a good place because of their coaching pedigree, but also because I spent time playing there and so my background is Dutch.
“I will then look at finding a place to coach within the youth academies at PSL clubs around the country.”
In January this year Salmon had an opportunity to transfer to Ajax Cape Town, which could have given him a chance to wind his career down at a club with a strong Dutch-influenced youth system.
“SuperSport did not want me to go then. If an opportunity comes up now, however, I will look at it. But only in youth coaching. I have retired from playing and am sticking to that.”
