Radebe, Madida and Doctor to assist Igesund

Lucas Radebe, Fani Madida and Doctor Khumalo to assist Bafana coach Gordon Igesund

Safa has identified that Lucas Radebe, Fani Madida and Doctor Khumalo will work under new Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund.

Word is that the Bafana technical team will be restructured, with Brazilian assistant coach Jairo Leal likely to be shown the door in place of local assistants.

Steve Komphela, who had been part-time assistant coach prior to taking over as caretaker boss, has been left hanging. His deal with Safa is per camp, as he is still coach of Free State Stars.

However, the news that the three former Bafana stars will be included in the national team set-up is refreshing, as Safa has not given its heroes much of a chance before.

Though Radebe has not coached since he retired seven years ago, he is widely respected and viewed as a positive influence on the domestic football scene.

The position that the former Bafana skipper will take up is not clear, but it is believed he will be team manager, with Madida and Khumalo as assistants.

Madida and Khumalo are currently involved as assistant coaches at AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.

Igesund has been given a performance-related two-year contract, during which he will lead the team at the Africa Cup of Nations in January, after which he has to ensure Bafana qualify for the 2014 World Cup.
