Igesund was appointed to the job this afternoon, with Steve Komphela missing out, though his future is still uncertain.
Safa president Kirsten Nemantandani explained that Igesund had been appointed on a two-year "performance-based contract", with his mandate being to reach the semifinals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, and also to qualify got the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Igesund did not do interviews at the unveiling, only saying: “Thank you to the president and executive committee for entrusting me with this position.
“I feel very honoured and privileged to be in charge of an asset like the national soccer team. All I can say is that I will do my very, very best to make us all proud.”
