The fact that Baxter has not enjoyed much success in his coaching career has left some doubting about how he will fare at Amakhosi – a club that is associated with winning silverware.
"When you come to a club of Chiefs' nature you have to look up to winning trophies otherwise you shouldn't have taken the job in the first place," Baxter says.
"This is an interesting job and great challenge for me and I am aware that trophies have to be won. I don't need to be reminded about what this job is all about."
It is no secret that Chiefs have a huge appetite for success, with their fans increasingly desperate for the League title, which they last won in 2005.
However, Baxter is being cautious and will not be swayed into promising the League title in his first year in charge.
"We want to win the League badly because Chiefs is associated with success. I cannot promise that we will win it but what I can promise is that we will do our best towards winning the League.
"We will fight in every possible way to make sure that we try and win the League as it is normal that it stands as the priority of what we are aiming for.
"What I can promise is that we will play the kind of football that our fans will enjoy. This is a process of building something for the future that we hope will inspire everyone," the former Bafana Bafana coach adds.
