Tshilo, a centre-back who has played for Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns, represents a position that Usuthu would like to strengthen.
But it is defensive midfield and right wing where the club are aiming to stabilise the most.
Should Tshilo sign, either he or Belux Bukasa Kasonga could play in the defensive midfield void left by Thamsanqa Sangweni, who joined Sundowns. Also at training is Ghanaian Ransford Osei and Phumelele Bhengu.
Bhengu has become a versatile player, able to play up-front on the wing or right-back which, should he sign, will give the Durban club many options.
The team has only returned to training this week so no decision on Bhengu, Osei or Tshilo has yet been made.
