Bafana Bafana's first-choice striker had an indifferent 2011/12 campaign, especially in the second half of the season when he found himself on the bench playing second fiddle to Zimbabwean Nyasha Mushekwi.
His hopes of a quick return to the starting XI have been dealt a few blows in the last few days – he underwent knee surgery earlier this week, while The Brazilians have also added two more strikers to their roster in the form of Edward Manqele and Emmanuel Baffour.
However, Binkin says Mphela is aware of the challenges he faces and is more than ready to confront them.
"Obviously the first priority for Katlego is getting back to full fitness," he tells KickOff.com. "And yes, Sundowns have signed two new strikers, but Katlego is aware of the challenges he faces.
"He is a quality striker and backs his abilities. Once he has recovered from his operation he will give his all to prove to the coach [Johan Neeskens] that he deserves to be in the starting XI."
Binkin remained mum when asked whether Mphela's future lies away from Chloorkop, saying instead that the player only wanted to focus on regaining full fitness for now.
