Segolela: We need quality players

Orlando Pirates winger Tlou Segolela worries about losing quality players

Orlando Pirates winger Tlou Segolela fears the possibility of losing key players like Andile Jali and Tokelo Rantie may adversely affect the club's ability to continue dominating South African football.

Experienced Zambian midfielder Isaac Chansa was recently sold to Henan Jianye FC of China while Jali and Rantie might also be leaving the club to play in Europe.

In a chat with KickOff.com, Segolela urges the Bucs management to rope in ‘quality' players capable of helping the club maintain its stranglehold on domestic football.

"Sometimes you cannot stop players leaving because it is good for their careers, especially when they manage to secure contracts in the more competitive leagues," says Segolela.

"It is every player's dream to play in Europe but as a club I think it is also important for us to maintain the balance in the team.

"This means going into the transfer market and getting quality players," he adds.

Rantie, who scored seven League goals last season, was a key figure in the Bucs attack but might return to Swedish side IFK Hassleholm after completing his loan spell.

Jali – on the other hand – has caught the eye of English clubs. The stocky midfielder's agent, Paschalis Tountouris of Prosport International, has informed KickOff.com the player is well poised to break into the English Premier League.

On the prospects of parting with his team-mates, Segolela says: "I am happy for Rantie because there is now a lot of interest in him from European sides.

"Whether he leaves us or not, I wish him the best. But Orlando Pirates is a big team with the ability to maintain its depth, in terms of players."
