Pirates close to Okwi deal

Orlando Pirates close to signing Ugandan international winger Emmanuel Okwi

Posted: 21 June 2012 Time: 08:37 am

Orlando Pirates are close to signing another rising African star with the news that Ugandan international winger Emmanuel Okwi is likely to join them next week.

Okwi plays for Simba in Tanzania and will arrive at Mayfair in a deal worth a reported R7-million, a record transfer in Tanzanian football.   He had a trial at Kaizer Chiefs before last season and was asked back for a second viewing, but at the time turned down the chance to instead attend a another trial in Turkey which came to nothing.   The 19-year-old already has 11 internationals goals to his name for The Cranes, having made his debut at 17, including netting in the 1-1 draw with Angola in a 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Angola on June 2, and in the 4-0 win over Congo in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this past weekend.   He was also top-scorer in the 2010 regional Cecafa Championship with four goals in five games, and matched that number in the 2011 tournament too.   "The deal is already done, but there are only a few things that the two clubs have to settle before giving Okwi the green light,” Simba communications officer Ezekiel Kamwaga told reporters.   "We have lost one of the best players who helped Simba win the title last season; it will be difficult to plug the hole left by him, but we are happy for it was a lucrative deal.”   Simba paid R40 000 to purchase him off SC Villa in his homeland in 2010, meaning their mega-deal with Pirates provides them with a handsome profit.

Otorugo was a rising star, so was Talatou- Msowoya was also a rising star, so everyone with a foreign ID is a rising star, at least according to some people?

SHABBA In Turkey was valued R2.5MILLION as per their standard and Pirates pays R7Million for Okwi.

Chansa left for China without trials and Shabba failed trial twice in a 2nd division average teams Forest n Palace.

Now Andile is about to make it big in England and people are now insulting.

genevive: that brings to rest the ghost, and i am sure the Limpopo brigade at downs are going to answer to their clueless boss how they did not perform to their optimum... i think the trip to Venda by the skinny guy and Mambush just shuttered everying- so they can have the money hungry Manqele who will continue to warm the bench at Bafana simply because he plays for a useless team, we have our tower, future BB captain!

At Pirates we bring internationals and if they do not live up to expectations, then like any other business, we let them go or bargain with them.

Tower n Gold chose Chiefs for game time seeing that @ Pirates there are pushovers. Its quality waya waya.

Now Bennie n Ratntie show Gold n Mathoho how average they are.

@King, I concur with u my champ. Our players are sold outright no trials like average Nyawana! But am a bit worried by the increased number of foreigners @ Pirates. We've won numerours cups with only one quality foreign player in king Chansa. Up the Bucs!

If he is 19 then it is fine....but i am concerned with the amount of money we are paying for him. Does this mean we don't have good development here at home. I was against Zebras paying money for young players from Zim coz that undermined our development structures and now this. This is why our national team is failing.
