Man Utd promise strong squad

Manchester United promise strong squad for South Africa tour

Manchester United have promised that they will bring the 'strongest possible squad' for next month's MTN Football Invitation pre-season tour of South Africa.

The Red Devils will be in the country for a week to play AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida on July 18 and then Ajax Cape Town three days later at Cape Town Stadium.

With the Uefa European Championships in full swing, there are fears that United's seven players at the tournament – Patrice Evra (France), Phil Jones, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young (England), Anders Lindegaard (Denmark) and Nani (Portugal) – might not make the trip, as they are due to be given an extended off-season.

Lyndon Barends, CEO of Primedia Sport, says the agreement they have with Manchester United stipulates that they bring a full squad.

"The contract clearly states that they must bring a full squad unless they are injured or unless they have just played in the Euros, like maybe if England goes very far then we wouldn't expect their English stars to be there because they will still be resting.

"It is a very important time for them, especially with blooding in the new and young players, so you would expect that some of the seasoned stars will not come.

"However, in reality Manchester United is not about one player but about a squad and a particular way of playing. We hope they bring the best available squad," Barends says.

New signings Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell will most likely make the trip.

Phillip Townsend, United's director of communications, says: "We will bring the strongest possible squad minus those that are at the major tournaments, whose break might be extended depending on how their countries progress.

"However, our players are excited about coming here. Pre-season plays a key role for us as it enables us to visit our fans around the world."

United will hold two training sessions during their tour, which will be open to the public, the first on July 17 in Durban and the second at Cape Town Stadium on July 20.

My aim is to pass the MESSAGE of which I did SUCCESSFULLY. Ya'll SOWETAN/Gautengers are TRIBALISTS,XENOPHOBIC towards other Africans from inside SA and outside.

Recently on TV news the other day a Xhosa lady was ARRESTED for speaking ENGLISH with a BRITISH ACCENT. Cops saw her "XHOSA" surname "Olayi" and thought shes "Foreign".

In the past in one of JOBURG schools a XHOSA speaking student was beaten up by his principal for speaking Xhosa to his friend.

Again a female friend of mine was unattended in one of Jozi's private hospitals by 2 black nurses who ignored her after they registered her name and realise she's XHOSA.

I have friends and cousins at Wits, Tuks studying who have many TRIBALSTS STORIES.

Jeez giving people everyone nicknames like "MXHOSA" or "TATA" is normal in Jozi.!!!!!!
Sad our people DIED fighting for all blacks (Africans, coloured,Indians) non whites in SA, some were even sold out by their fellow own cadres who became millionaires and married white woman afterwards.

AM SURE Mandela,Biko, Hani,Sobukwe,Tambo,Sisulu etc..is watching this we're "FOREIGNERS IN GAUTENG".

Tallman this is a sports hub and not a political page for you to vent your anger against your fellow brother & sisters. That is why all publications have blogs where people can blog & vent there anger. FIFA said lets leave politics to politicians & play the beautiful game without that interference.

Lyndon njust went and said two contradicting statements. The reason that United might/will not bring the full squad is the fact that they are participating in the euros, so what the contract regarding squad is saying is immaterial since the clause exempt those injured(understandable) and those in the euros(Which is the crux of the team).

Since the city of Cape Town refused to host any games from the African Nations Cup, we need to boycot this game. Come on my beautiful Africans lets unite for a change. I for one will not attend this friendly.
