Mzimela approached the club management citing lack of game time for his desire to be allowed to leave after having been forced by first choice keeper Tapuwa Kapini to watch from the bench for the greater part of this past season. "Kati did approach us asking to be released from his contract but we rejected his request," says club general manager Peter O'Connor. KickOff.com has learnt that Platinum Stars have shown interest in the 27 year-old. "I can obviously understand his frustrations because he didn't play much during the past season. "However, we still need to have a decent back-up goalkeeper and if we had allowed him to leave then we would have had serious problems like the ones that we had in previous seasons when we didn't have strong cover between the posts. "Since he is still under contract at the club he will continue with us because we are not keen on releasing him," says O'Connor. Mzimela played just six games during the past season with Kapini keeping goals in all the other games.
