Enyeama: Focus is on Rwanda match

Vincent Enyeama urges focus on the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda

Posted: 12 June 2012 Time: 10:20 am

Vincent Enyeama, who committed a howler to allow Malawi an equaliser on Saturday, has urged his team mates to forget that incident and focus on the upcoming second leg 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.

The stand-in captain addressed his mates at lunch where he thanked them for the amazing fighting spirit they have shown so far in the qualifiers for the 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil and the 2013 Afcon.    He added that he has been pleasantly surprised by the new set of players in the national team and was amazed that such talents still abound in the team, especially from the Nigerian league.   "I won't be surprised if during this period I'm dropped from this team," said Enyeama. "Nobody is too big to be asked to go if he's not measuring up, but I must commend those of us that are here for being very committed not only to qualifying for the World Cup but also the Nations Cup.   "We were supposed to win in Malawi and it didn't happen, that is now in the past.   "We must forget that and be ready to beat Rwanda silly to qualify for the next Nations Cup. Don't forget gentlemen that we failed to qualify for the last Nations Cup and God forbids thunder will not strike twice in our time.    "That is why I'm begging us to leave issues of last week behind and get ready to pound Rwanda for the Nations Cup", he said amidst applause from his teammates.

you have spoken a true captain enyeama. please, ensure you implement the lessons you have learnt from that blunder. i wish you guys the best.

Mr Keshi, just know your critics and fans are waiting to analyse you after this series. your results have not been encouraging. am sure you know you are the last indigenous bus stop if you fail. it will take a long time before we can trust local coaches again.

Just a quick question mr Keshi, how have you been updating yourself in this game of soccer with the over $30,000.00 you are paid? ( with probable little or no tax).

Mixing apologies with encouragement is certainly a charismatic way to speak. Well , Enyeama pulling-off a fantastic save in the first half is no guarantee to commit such terrible blunder which threw away two precious points, however, you are still my number one. Make sure it doesnt happen again. @luis-hero, my brother , boko haram network now exist in kon, so i'm been very careful not to incur their wrath thus my contribution will likely be minimal. Abeg i won see my 'shidren shidren o '.lol

• Players, officials affected

As part of his disciplinary measures towards ensuring that players conform to laid down rules, Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi has banned the use of mobile phones during meal times.
An impeccable source revealed to SportingLife that the ban extends to officials of the team whom the "Big Boss" believes must lead by example at all times.
"We leave our handsets in our rooms anytime we go to eat, whether it is lunch, breakfast or dinner. It is a taboo to be found with your handset while eating and if caught you can be punished by the appropriate officers. It is that serious and no one is taking it for granted," said the official.
Keshi, an ex-international and longest serving captain of the national team believes, players must display etiquette at all times.
Furthermore no member of the team is allowed to converse while eating.
"You would recall that the coach had banned the wearing of earrings and sagging of trousers when in camp," added the official.
Eagles who have just returned from Malawi where they played a 1-1 draw face Rwanda this Saturday in a 2013 Nations Cup qualifier in Calabar.

Im sorry im saying this, really don't mean to start another siasia debate, but someway or the other, every player siasia had issues with has either had a bad headline or lost favour even before bros Keshi.

1, Yakubu 2, Osaze, 3, Etuhu - Bros keshi has failed to call them to his national team after they failed to live up to expectation.

Mikel, Keshi has refused to call him, cos their talks didnt go well the last time he was invited

Osaze has a fall out with keshi in rwanda

and Now Enyeama.

Alot of us failed to see the writing on the wall, the players were feeling over celebrated, similar thing happend with chelsea and AVB, but club football is diff from national team. Etuhu swore not to play under siasia, keshi called him for 2 or 3 matches and dumped him and swore not to invite foreign pros again, which is more diminishing, calling you to come and rescue your nation or loosing your jersey to a bunch of local boys?

Just my tauts anywys, before Kola comes here and start to bark like a barbarian.

Good talk Enyeama.

The reason that blunder was made in Malawi was because Enyeama was not totally into the rebuilding exercise and he continually spoke out of line.
He asked us to expect a hard game against Namibia and that he won't promise anything. He also said we should not expect miracles before the Malawi trip. All these came together and manifested in his game! He is the captain for crying out loud, captains are supposed to rally their troops not put doubt in their minds but ultimate self belief.

This is why I am happy with this recent speech. I t shows he is in it 100% now. So he is now rallying his troops to "pound" the Rwandis, this is more like it!

So I think the coach should retain him as he has learnt from that howler.

As for banning mobile phones, I think a coach shoud be allowed to set rules in his camp as he will carry the can at rhe end of the day. Haven't you heard of Argentine coach who refused to call the great Redondo because he, Redondo refused to cut his flowing hair? Batistuta, Cannigia etc all complied and were called to camp! So please allow Keshi be and measure him after the match this weekend.

@TimmyO, I didn't hear about any fallout between Enyeama and Keshi. As for Obi Mikel, Keshi gave his reasons for not inviting him and it doesn't sound like a fall out either. every urgment or misunderstand is not a fall out.

And every fallout shouldn't result in the player being dropped. And sometimes, it is not always the players fault.

Well, well here we go again. Enyeama was made a captain after he derailed the last coach. How do you make a malcotent a captain? Now he goofed on an important game and he is making speeches. When are we ever going to learn in Africa that there are consequences for our actions? We keep putting the bad eggs on the team, what do you think will happen? He is not a regular on his team, if he is good he will be starting. Anybody who knows football knows that the only way you get better is get regular touches.A local goalkeeper who is a started will be better than these bench warmers in foreign country.
Sad to see Mikel being fetted by the house for what? Which championship has he won for Nigeria? We will never learn and it is shamefull.

Thanks @ola2014. The way we value foreign things in this country is amazing. Even when those things are fake and even when we ve better substitutes, we still rush them. Lets change our orientation. God bless Nig.

@ola2014 God bless you. This dude is not a goalkeeper. He is crap. I keep on saying it, When Asamoah had a penalty against Zambia, the goalkeeper rose to the occassion, the result : Zambia went to win the nations cup. I am not saying he is not trying in penalties ooo. Great goalkeepers keep their team when the chips are down, Cech against Ribery/Robben. They give their team and supporters hope where there is no hope.

I know Nigeria can not and will never go far with this Eggyama. My words have not changed and it will not. I have never seen him b4, I don't know him and never cares but HE ....! Collins keep blowing his trumpet. Against a team as lowly as Malawi, he could not even save us. What happens when Brazil, CIV, Germany, Argentina come calling????

Apology not accepted! but I think Keshi should retain him as the no 2 keeper.. he has gone soft and grown fat, maybe because of the bench he has been warming all through the season in his club. A regular home based is far better than any European based bench warmer

@TimmyO, my brother let me tell you in case you don't know. Siasia never had issues with his players, but even if he had issues with his players, tell me any coach in the world that never had issues with his players, so it is natural, after all we disagree to agree. But what was happening then, was the hand work of NFF and the media. There is no different between Siasia and Keshi, i remember someone saying that Nigerians are complaining about Siasia they should watch out for Keshi, that Keshi is more strict than Siasia, what are we seeing today. NFF, the Media and some players never wanted Siasia to succeed, forget about all the noise about they gave him free hand to pick players. Their action then was like to sending a child to buy salt and you followed him behind with water. All the noise in media about Siasia have issues with his players was a planned deal with the media and nothing more. Tell me Know the difference, where is Osaze, Etuhu, Aiyegbeni, Mikel, Taiwo. Why is the media keeping quite and they are blowing their trumpet, because no one is paying them to write nonsense, by the time NFF get tired of Keshi excesses you will start reading those nonsense from the hungry Nigerian Media.

Watch out Eyeama's day's are numbered, because very soon as soon the home base goalkeepers gets all the confidence they need Keshi will dump Eyeama. Etuhu told the whole world that Siasia treated him like a school boy, what is happening know. My brother Keshi invited him once and dumped him.

Consequently, the following starting line up is being proposed: Ejide; Efe, Oboabona, Eguekwe and Oshaniwa; Musa, Reuben Raheem and Aluko; Ik Uche and Uche Kalu. The Substitutions in the match on Saturday should be; Utaka for Uche Kalu; Moses for Aluko and Uzoenyi for Musa be played inThe NFF should please, arrange for more friendly matches for the Eagles, at least one every month, against African, Asian, European, South and Central American countries, in order to further expose the local stars while also, enhancing the necessary blending between the local stars and their foreign based counterparts.
