CAF inspection team to visit SA stadiums ahead of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations

An inspection team from the Confederation of African Football will travel to South Africa early next month to run the rule over each of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nation Cup venues.

The team from the headquarters of continental football in Cairo want to go on a detailed inspection of the hosts venues and the stadiums to be used for the 16-team tournament early next year.

They will travel to Durban, Nelspruit, Port Elizabeth and Rustenburg, as well as Soccer City in Johannesburg, which were all designated in early May as the venues for the tournament from January 19 to February 10.

Meetings will be held with the municipal authorities and stadium officials, as well as the operations team that has been put together to run the tournament on behalf of the South African Football Association.

CAF are also still considering whether to move the draw for the last round of qualifiers from Cairo to Johannesburg.

It was originally scheduled to be held on either July 4 or 5 in Cairo but might now be hosted in South Africa instead as part of a bid to garner more publicity for the upcoming tournament.

The draw and would pit the 16 teams from the 2012 finals against 16 teams who will come through the first round of qualifying.

The first round, featuring giants such as Cameroon, Egypt and Nigeria, will be completed by the end of the month.

I just wonder what these CAF palookas will be inspecting, I mean we have hosted the world cup and Afcon before. I was just watching some highlights of the Ghananian league, I couldn't believe that seasoned professionals could be aloud to play on such stadiums
