Pienaar: We're a bit down

Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar admits the team is a bit down

Posted: 6 June 2012 Time: 09:35 am

Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar admits the team is a bit down following the sacking of Pitso Mosimane as coach, but insists they are ready to move on.

Bafana produced a limp display in their opening 2014 World Cup qualifier, drawing 1-1 at home to Ethiopia – the result of which was Mosimane losing his job after going nine games without a win.   Pienaar, who missed a glorious chance late on to secure the three points, says while the players are a bit dejected, they are ready to pick themselves up ahead of Saturday's qualifier against Botswana in Gaborone.   "For us as players, we're a bit down," 'Schillo' says. "It's normal in football when you lose a coach. But we have to lift ourselves up mentally and physically again because we know the result in the last game wasn't good enough."   He adds: "There are no easy games in football anymore. We went into the game a bit relaxed. You could see in the first half we didn't expect them to come out the way they did. In the second half we were aware of them.   "We put them under pressure for the whole second 45 minutes and scored a goal, and we could have scored a few."   Bafana will need the three points against a Botswana side which lost their opening match 2-0 to Central African Republic.

You need to be demoted and benched also may be you raise your game otherwise Gould can lead Bafana for now in de absent of Sangweni.

@ Ma-Eddie,

Pitso is big news at the moment so every dik & harry will try to squize water out of this rock called Pitso.

Only KC can sign him. They are the so-called BEST team in Africa so is Pitso coaching-wise, they deserve each other. The best exponents of mediocrity in the SAn history.

Steve please cut the crab, down for losing a coach? please man, you spoke like a fake Captain, what did Pitso give you to say what you saying. This is good-riddens man!

Besides you are not playing for Pitso you are playing for the country, now you have the nerve to miss such a sitter and come here to tell the nation that "nywenyweee...we are down as players"

Be a true leader and see the light that you needed change, maybe you also must vacate that post cause you are useless

I am disappointed in this player

Mr Pienaar pliz try to show your leadership skills if you have any. You don't only have to play good but you also have to guide your players and assist the technical staff just like Bennie is doing at the home of champions.

Have the balz to tell the coach to do away with failures like uNyawane, Madela's boy, Injury faker Hlokoloza's finest, 2 minutes in the toilet Gould, Belgiam reject Gaxa...then we will have a good team.

Truth be told, thsi Pienaar fellow is a sissiie, he cannot captain Bafana, you hardly see a guy motivating other players and asking more in the players, if he can give a stone-cold performance, what makes other players to be motivated...sheeerrrr man!

I suggest the new coach gives Gould the armband

We know that you are always taking a dive, that's why you are down.
Don't say a bit down Mawanjalo Pinaar.
You don't want to play for SA finish and klaar, the Pinaar that we see in Bafana Bafana jersey is not the Pinaar that we see in Everton jersey.
