Brazilians deny Mweene interest

Mamelodi Sundowns not after Free State Stars goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene

Mamelodi Sundowns are pouring cold water on suggestions they want to sign Free State Stars goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.

The Brazilians reportedly made an unsuccessful move to rope in the Zambian player last season in a two-horse race also involving Ajax Cape Town.    Sundowns are said to have recently renewed their interest in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner as they look to mount a serious 2012/13 League title campaign.    However, in a chat with KickOff.com, Mamelodi Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito insists the five-time League champions are happy with their three goalkeepers – Wayne Sandilands, Calvin Marlin and Dennis Onyango.

_quote "We do not intend to sign Kennedy Mweene and this is the official position," says Mosito.    "We already have three quality goalkeepers in the form of Wayne, Calvin and Dennis. We do not need more goalkeepers so we are not going after Mweene," he adds.    Mosito is confident the club will be able to retain the services of Sandilands, whose contract with the club is now up.    The Bafana goalkeeper's agent – Glyn Binkin – is currently negotiating a new deal with Sundowns.     Besides, Sandilands, Marlin and Onyango, Mamelodi Sundowns also have within their books Jackson Mabokgwane, who has just completed his one-year loan to Platinum Stars.

Does Sundowns really need an extra goalie? What about some fresh legs to anchor that midfield, as Nyandoro days are over!
