Eagles grind out Namibia win

Nigeria grind out Namibia win

Posted: 3 June 2012 Time: 08:23 pm

Ike Uche scored 10 minutes from time as the Super Eagles ground out a 1-0 win over Namibia in Sunday's World Cup qualifier.

The striker showed ice-cold nerves to ram home from six yards after buying himself space with some fancy nit of ball juggling.

Stephen Keshi's second competitive game saw the former Nigeria skipper taking the bold step of sending out five domestic league players out to battle.

It looked like the brave decision would pay off early, as Ejike Uzoenyi linked up well with Victor Moses and Ike Uche to fashion out multiple chances in the opening 15 minutes.

But Uche failed to put the ball inside the net, and that set the tone for most of the game.

Namibia barely threatened for most of the match, and only found themselves forward in spurts.

With Kenya drawing at home to Malawi on Saturday, Nigeria move into top spot in the group.

Faith( in domestic players) and hard work ( Early preparation) has finally paid off. As the team continue to jelly together as a team, cohesiveness, chemistry and smoothness of the team will become natural and automatic. Congratulations Stephen Keshi and the Super Eagles, better days lays ahead. RIP to victims of today's plane crash and victims of foreign sponsored local terrorist attack in Bauchi.

Let's not forget that the likes of Ivory Coast, Senegal, Egypt didn't run over their opponent like Ghana did. Even the current Champions of Africa lost to Sudan and South Africa managed a draw at home with Ethiopia. Let's try to encourage this boys and they'll do better subsequently.

As this is the 1st game of 3 this month, the team hopefully will continue to gel together. No players can make excuses since all the world leagues are off for the summer. So now is concentration time to play for your country. Keshi must recognize this and quilkly form a potent 11 players and 2nd 11 before the players return to their jobs.

Hmmmmmmmmmm....I didn't see the match but a win is a win. This is not convincing at all, but winning is paramount. If Senegal,Ivory Coast and other top ranked nations labored to win, it shouldn't translate to Super Eagles matches. Congrats Ike Uche for scoring the winner. Ike Uche missed several scoring chances but scored the vital goal which gave Nigeria three points and put us in pole position.

Congrats to Nigeria.

E go beta as usual, lol.

May the souls of those who lost their lives in today's plane crash rest in piece, Amen.

@kola US,
your fascinating (and amusing) comments have been noted.
This is not the time to take you on. Be patient, bigger debates lie ahead of us. The time to talk to you will come, by then I hope you will still have some ammunition in your bag.
But in the meantime, you can keep toasting to mediocrity.
