This after the midfielder passed trials with Ajax recently.
The former Dutch Under-21 international has gone back home to Holland but is expected to return to Cape Town next month to tie down a contract for next season.
Van de Laak has been at Dutch Eredivisie club FC Groningen since 2005, and was a fan favourite, captaining the team in the 2009/10 season. In December 2010 he picked up a knee injury that kept him out of action until January 2012.
"We are keen to sign him and are still negotiating," Ajax CEO George Comitis says.
Comitis also confirms that his club will be retaining the services of Matthew Booth next season.
The defender joined Ajax early this year on a short-term contract but did well enough to convince club management to offer his a long-term deal.
