Steven Pienaar scores for Everton

Posted: 14 May 2012 Time: 09:21 am

Bafana Bafana skipper Steven Pienaar made a triumphant exit from Goodison Park when he netted against boyhood idols Newcastle United as Everton won 3-1 on the final day of the English Premiership campaign.

There is every chance that ‘Schillo’ will be back with The Toffees next season, with the club determined to keep him beyond his loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur.

It was a fourth goal in 14 starts for Pienaar since returning to Merseyside and helped Everton finish seventh in the table, above local rivals Liverpool, who lost again at Swansea.

Former Bidvest Wits striker Calvin Kadi was again on the scoresheet for Greek second-tier side Veria as they took another step towards promotion with a 3-0 home success over Agrotikos Asteras.   Veria now need just one more point from their remaining three matches to book their passage back to the big-time.   Darren Keet continued in goals for Kortrijk as they brought their season in Belgium to a close with a 3-2 loss at Club Brugge. Keet had been excellent in the midweek 2-0 win over champions Anderlecht, but could not help his side on Sunday as they ended sixth in the championship play-off group.   Anele Ngcongca was also in action for Genk as they suffered back-to-back losses in the campaign but still managed to finish third and claim UEFA Europa League football next season.   Bevan Fransman was a second-half substitute for Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv in what was likely his last appearance for the team with the Bafana star set to return to the PSL next season.   They drew 1-1 with Maccabi Haifa in a game of little significance for Hapoel, who had already secured second-place and UEFA Europa league football next season.   The same is true for striker Dino Ndlovu, whose Bnei Yehuda side finished third in the League despite a 2-0 loss to Ashdod and will also be competing in Europe's second competition next season, a personal triumph for the former Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns forward.   Delron Buckley did not play for Karlsruher as they drew the away leg of their Bundesliga II relegation play-off with third-tier Jahn Regensburg 1-1. They will fight for their second-tier survival when they play the second leg tonight.   Bradley Grobler did not play in Goztepe's final game of the season, a 2-0 loss to Kartalspor that sees the side finish 13th in the 18-team League.   May Mahlangu played for Swedish side Helsingborg as they put behind them a 3-0 midweek drubbing at Malmo to defeat Hacken 3-2 at home on Sunday. It continues to be a less than convincing start to the season for the side though.   Tsepo Masilela missed Getafe's final Spanish La Liga game of the campaign with a groin injury that leaves him a major doubt for the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in just a few weeks' time.
