Black Leopards fight back for a 2-2 draw with Free State Stars

Posted: 18 April 2012 Time: 16:59

Black Leopards fought back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw away to Free State Stars on Wednesday afternoon.

Ea Lla Koto went two up thanks to Kennedy Mweene and Zakari Morou, but late strikes from Mongezi Bobe and Itumeleng Duiker claimed a valuable point in Ladoda Duvha's quest to avoid relegation.

Leopards would have taken an early lead were it not for a fine save from Mweene, who turned Nkosiyabo Xakane’s second-minute shot round his post for a corner kick.

Five minutes later Mweene was in action at the other end of the field, converting a penalty after Vincent Mabusela's handball.

Stars should have extended their lead in the 37th minute, but Mzikayise Mashaba pulled his effort wide of goal, with only Thabang Maluleke to beat.

Five minutes later Mabusela almost redeemed himself for giving away the penalty, forcing another good save from Mweene, who was undoubtedly the best player of the first half.

Stars threatened to extend their advantage early in the second half through near-misses by Mashaba and Enva Wiltwer, while Leopards shuffled their pack with the introduction of striker David Zulu off the sub's bench eight minutes after the restart.

But it was a Stars substitute who made an impact first, as Zakari Morou made it 2-0 to the hosts on 69 minutes, turning home a low cross from Katlego Mashego.

Leopards pulled one back through Bobe, who fired a low shot beyond the reach of Mweene to make it 2-1, and pushed hard for an equalising goal in the dying minutes.

The Limpopo side finally breached the Stars defence deep in injury time, when Duiker fired home after good set-up play by Raymond Monama on the left.
