Thebakang tested positive during a routine drug test conducted by the South African Institute for Drug Free Sport after Stars’ 2-1 defeat to Bidvest Wits on December 21. He claims he was smoking hubbly bubbly, but the results allegedly show traces of weed.
Thebakang says he has learnt his lesson.
“I have been banned for three months,” he confirms. “I’m sorry to all my supporters. I have learnt my lesson,” he says.
The 24-year-old also confirms that he has a meeting with the team on Wednesday, when his contract could be terminated.
“I’m meeting the team tomorrow and I want to stay at the club. I have been loyal to this club when players like Stanley Kgatla left and I remained here. But if they don’t want me anymore then I will accept it and move on,” he adds.
As it stands, Thebakang has also been suspended by the club for the rest of the season.
