Free State Stars beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0

Posted: 21 March 2012 Time: 21:30

Free State Stars beat a 10-man Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday evening, thanks to another Edward Manqele strike.

The drama was to hit quick and hard for Ajax as Keamogetse Wolff was shown an instant red card for foul language, leaving the Cape Town outfit having to fend with 10 men for 82 minutes.

As a result of the dismissal Aiden Jenniker was brought on for Brent Carelse in the 15th minute, a sacrifice which had to be made by Ajax to ensure extra cover at the back.

The sending off resulted in a rattled Urban Warriors defence, and Manqele should have made it 1-0 when he ran through three defenders, but his acute shot was palmed over by Sander Westerveld.

On 33 minutes Mzikayise Mashaba slotted through a ball to Manqele, who neatly tucked the ball into the back of the net to put his side in the lead.

After the restart the Dutch keeper had to make a low diving save off a Katlego Mashego shot.

Despite being down to 10 men for the majority of the game, the Urban Warriors managed to hold back the Free State Stars attack.

Khama Billiant had the chance to secure a late equaliser, but his shot went wide.

Stars are up to fifth on the log on 35 points, while Ajax remain in seventh on 31.

I wish soccer zone can show the face of Wolff and you don't have to be professional to be a lip reader. The guy clearly said to the opposition player or ref, 'Jou ma se p........ (fill in the blank space)

I have just checked the goalscores charts and it shows that Mangele is now joint leading goal scorer together with Mphela and others. I am just wondering whether Stars will be able to keep him beyond this season. Dont be suprised if u see him next season sitting on the bench at Orlando Galaxies, Kaizer Chiefs or Mamelodi Chokers.Worse still he may even sit on the dest with suppoters of these teams. I would like to advise Stars to fight tooth and nail to avoid this talent going to waste. One more thing I have observed South African teams are very inconsistent. Since the second round started no team has ever managed to win five games in a row. I think Mr editor we must debate this issue of inconcistency. I know some people will say the league is competitive but I do not think that is the case.
