Anele Ngcongca tips Ayanda Patosi as Bafana star

Posted: 19 March 2012 Time: 18:16

Anele Ngcongca has tipped young midfielder Ayanda Patosi to be a future star for Bafana Bafana.

The 19-year-old from Cape Town is expected to play some part for his club Lokeren in the Belgian Cup Final on Sunday after a stunning debut season in Europe.

And having lined up against him for the first time for reigning champions Racing Genk in last month’s 1-0 defeat, Bafana right-back Ngcongca has nothing but praise for Patosi.

“He has done so well in his first season in Belgium – I only played three games in my first season so to see him make it to the cup final is a great achievement,” he tells KickOff.com.

“I knew Ayanda when he was in Cape Town, so he is taking the same route that I took and I’m very proud of him. He’s such a humble guy as well.”

Patosi has yet to play for his country at any level, having moved to Belgium last July directly from Africa Soccer Developments Academy. He will be up against Darren Keet’s FC Kortrijk in the Cup final and Ngcongca, who is now firmly established in Pitso Mosimane’s first-choice line-up, expects him to force his way into contention for the full squad.

“Ayanda is the future for the national team and his time will come,” he says. “I speak to him every day and he was here with me at the weekend.

“I told him to keep his feet on the ground because he is a good talent, but he mustn’t think he has already made it. The only thing he has to do is keep working hard and I’m sure he will be wearing the colours of the national team one day.”

Last week I met a guy who said he is Ayanda's father. How ironic that this week he is featured.

The guy's name is Sipho.

Just to come back to this topic:I hope this boy will realize his full potential & make it in top Euro sides.

Unlike calling players who are averaging 23 yrs in SA,not regulars youngsters it is very promising for the future of South Africa to have an under 20 player already in Europe.

Personally I feel the next 2 years are critical for him to be consistent & get noticed.

I coached Ayanda for few games just before he went to Belgium. The first time I saw the boy I almost cried with envy and I felt sad that he is Cape Town and his talent will go to waist. The boy can win you games individually. His combination with Lindani in my team was like the combination of Jali and Manyisa. You go "Deco"!

you do not know what you talk about. this guy is playing his first season as a professional. You should be asking how come this guy was not picked up by one of the PSL teams. National teams are the last point of call not the first.

I even approached one psl team here in CT to have a look at the boy but I was told about its culture and playing system!! They could have got the gem for next to nothing!! Keep the flag flying Deco!!

thse youngsters should start winning the under 20's and under 23's tornaments or atleast qualify before we talk about bafanabafana,

the under 20 that went to Egypt and went to the last 8 was supposed to be monitored, now we would be beefing that squad with the potosi's,baloyi's and that wits guy who is 17 years old

where is erusmas?he is better than majoro, parker, nontshitsa, and many more
with his techninic he remind me of brendon Augustin(mind my spelling)

mahlangu
patosi
jali
keet
serero
these guys should qualify for a major tornament b4 we talk about bafana bafana,eg olympics
