Espanyol climbed into the top half of the Spanish Primera Liga standings after a hat-trick by midfielder Kalu Uche helped them to a 5:1 thrashing of the visiting Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

The Nigeria international scored twice in the first half either side of a Philip Coutinho brace as the Catalans raced to a four nil lead at the break.

Rayo pulled one back through Raul Tamudo in the 54th minute, before Uche capped the win on 69 minutes.

Uche, who rejoined Espanyol in the winter transfer window after an earlier spell in the 2000-01 season, has now scored four goals in five appearances for the club.

Meanwhile younger brother Ikechukwu Uche was on the losing side after playing all 90 minutes for Granada in their 2:0 loss at Atletico Madrid today.

i watched the game on super sports, it was such a shame. the guys were not ebven ashamed that the match was being watched live and their faces were so glaring as they ran arround the pitch pursuing the referee. i felt so ashamed and supersports was sharp and quick to remove the scene immedaitely. the guys who masterminded the attack were not more than 5 of the whole crowd. no need to punish the whole fans. with tv replays the masterminds can be singled out and charged for criminal assault.
