Mwaruwari targets Radebe, Pienaar

Posted: 24 February 2012 Time: 08:01 am

KickOff.com has learnt that Benjani Mwaruwari intends to invite Lucas Radebe and Steven Pienaar for a testimonial match in three months.

The former Zimbabwean international striker called time on his international career in October 2010 and his testimonial match is aimed at marking his retirement from international football.

His invitational team will play Zimbabwe’s senior national team on May 26 at the National Sports Stadium.

Mwaruwari, who played for Jomo Cosmos in South Africa and currently plays for English club Portsmouth, intends to invite Lucas Radebe, Steven Pienaar, Didier Drogba, Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, Michael Essien, Chris Katongo, Bruce Grobbelaar and Yakubu among a galaxy of current and former international stars.

Proceeds from the match will go to the Benjani Mwaruwari Foundation, which is a charity trust reportedly setting up a football academy in Zimbabwe’s second largest city, Bulawayo.

The former Zimbabwe captain was in Harare on Monday, where he had a meeting with Zifa president Cuthbert Dube and potential sponsors for the testimonial match. Follow me on Twitter @TTM16

Good one Benjani. This is one of the best presents you can give to the youth of Zim. Let’s hope other Zim professionals will follow when they retire.

Please encourage Knowledge, Khama and the likes to soldier on. It’s not an easy road but with an eye from the likes of you, they will prosper.
