Senegal wield the axe for Bafana

Demba Ba is among several high-profile casualties as Senegal kept just nine of the squad from the recent African Nations Cup finals for a friendly against South Africa in Durban on February 29.

The Newcastle United striker has been left out along with the likes of Mamadou Niang, Souleymane Diawara and Moussa Sow, who recently moved to Fenerbahce in Turkey in a €10-million transfer from French champions Lille.

Co-coaches Karim Sega Diouf and Aliou Cisse, who are acting in a caretaker capacity after the firing of Amara Traore, have promoted up several players from the country’s Under-23 side for the first match for Senegal since a disastrous Nations Cup campaign.

Traore was sacked earlier this month after Senegal, one of the pre-Nations Cup favourites, lost all three group games at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

Among those who survived the cull were Ba’s new club-mate Papiss Demba Cissé and Wigan Athletic midfielder Mouhamed Diame.

Back in the squad is Mame Biram Diouf, formerly on the books at Manchester United striker who is now at Hannover in the Bundesliga.

Thina we dont even have an under 23 of real quality that we can call on if we were to cull our current squad due to the lack of proper development in the country.

Khosi by birth & right

Cza : 2012-02-17 17:47

may u please give me a squad of 22 that u feel can best represent our country. Coz mna all I see is mediocre playas pretending to be profesionals. They cant trap, pass shoot or make proper football decisions @ the right times. I hope u watched the recent AFCON & saw the quality in Africa. Now compare that to our Psl.

Carlos Peirera was here but he achieved nothing for his time but there was never noises on his performance.

Now because is Pitso ppl are louder, but in fairness Bafana never achieved under Carlos.

Look @ development structures & Bafana itself, how many players from Bafana played in development or SA juniors then you can judge the coach.

@Cza we have been singing that song for years now but still NO action
and we do have the players that can be developed into something but it has to start at an early age, lokk what happened to abo Bernie,Peannar and mokotjo, abo Jali,Serero, Manyisa were goona be very good IF they were natured earlier.
@TP:i guess you were not reading K/off at that time because they were so many people who were voicing at this magazine i remember King,Tivane,Gadhaffi among many making some jokes about his salary vs perfomance and when he left the job for Santana, and to be fair Parreira himself said that without the development structure SA is going nowhere.
@Dinho: nguMZUZO lento oyikhethile baphi OMasilela,Peannar,Mahlangu, i will go as far as calling Surman do not understand why not??
If SA wants to be great among great we have to put our own house in order and play among the best, look at USA they are playing Italy on the same day and Brazil on May the 30th thats good staff even if they loose both games. you have to judge yourself among the best Senegal is a step in the right direction we need Ivory coast, Nigeria,Egypt then we go to Europe, then South America, and maybe SAFA should try to organize BB to go and participate in the Concacaf like they did under Molotto, and Baxter
