Itumeleng Khune says he was greatly inspired by Kennedy Mweene's heroics at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Zambian international, who plays his club football for Free State Stars, kept some potent strikers at bay as he played a sterling role to guide Chipolopolo to their first Afcon title, and was subsequently rewarded with a place in the Team of the Tournament.
Khune, who was watching on TV following Bafana Bafana's failure to qualify for the tournament, has commended Mweene for putting in some great displays throughout the tournament.
"Firstly, I want to congratulate Zambia for winning the Afcon," Khune says.
"I also want to congratulate Kennedy Mweene for the way he performed. As a goalkeeper, I thought he did tremendously well and I was deeply touched by his performance, especially at that level.
"I was inspired by him, especially because we share the same fields here in South Africa," Khune adds.
Mweene kept four clean sheets in six matches during the tournament and received widespread plaudits for his efforts.
