Downs sign deal with Honda

Mamelodi Sundowns have clinched a new car supplier partnership deal with Honda, paving way for the Japanese manufacturers to become the official vehicle partners of the club.

Sundowns’ last official vehicle partners were Dodge, but when the deal elapsed they were left without any partner until the clinching of the latest deal.

Though the launch of the new deal is expected to be announced on Monday, the club’s officials and technical department are already using Honda vehicles for their daily errands.

Honda will supply the club with 40 cars to use during the duration of their relationship.

KickOff.com has picked up that Audi had initially showed interest in supplying the club with cars, but were only prepared to offer 20 vehicles, leading to them being overtaken by Honda who doubled the offer.

But the deal with Honda is now sealed with the mere formality of a launch to be done on Monday afternoon at the club’s base in Chloorkop.

French company Peugeot became the vehicle partners of Orlando Pirates last September.

But how can they choose Honda over Audi, coz as far as i know, the latter is a trusted and reliable brand that competes with other big brands in the market like Mercedes and BMW while the former is a direct opposite... Motsepe doesnt have a good eye for marketing really......

We are always associated with stars, so I am not surprised that a quality brand like honda( not hyndai) has decided to join us. 20 and 40 cars, it was a simply decision to make.

I don't blame Dodge for ending this deal I said so last year. There is Renew garage in Stridjom Park in Randburg. I used to see more than 10 Dodge cars with Sundowns stickers and it was obvious that no1 will ever want to associate himself with these recleless and unresponsible team like Sunclows.

@mapeya ..I will like to politely corrects you Madam( sorry if u are a guy). Dodge is one of those american car manufacture which were badly heat by recession. After that they stop all their sponsoring worldwide. But decided to see the Downs deal thru. That alone tells u a story. Sundowns is a brand, a football club that is driven by a winning mentality. Am sure u re one of those people who are sad and hurt of not seeing Yellow winning any silverware in the past 4 years. I tell u we all miss the true champ, the champ of style winning in style. Don't worry my friend the football gods has been listening to true football lovers praying. The time is now.

By the way who won't like to be associeted with 5 times psl champ, star players like Mphela, Pelemba, Cheese wabantwana, Google Earth the General, Sikalekhekhe Laffour, Masterpieces Moriri and aboDaniels Tower uyangthola @mapeya

@Kidu kudu, Nissan sponsor of Chiefs is bigger than all these Pirates and Sundowns micky mouse car deals combined. Remember Nissan was sponsoring Chiefs and all these other small teams like Pirates, Sundowns and Leopards before but not on equal terms with Chiefs. A player of the year at Chiefs got R180 000 amount of money and a new Nississan Qashka top of the range car and before Qashkar it was a Nissan Murano but it was not the same at these other small teams. Nissan eventually dumped all these three teams to remain with the biggest brand of them all. Chiefs and Nissan association might be going its tenth year just like Nike going beyond ten years with Chiefs. I'm not suprised that Dodge dumped Sundowns while Pirates was with a car partner for a long time after Nissan dumped them. Lets just hope both Honda and Peugot does not dump these teams soon. It is also not suprising that it was a former Chiefs player Brian Baloyi who got Sundowns the Dodge and the Nike deal for Sundowns, he might as well be the one who got this Honda. He learnt from the best at Naturena.

Instead of fans celebrating this as a result of the rise to prominence of the PSL as a brand they are at each other's throats claiming their team's sponsor is beta dan da ada, something which baffles me. The bottom line is this is good for SA football. Soon other brands from all walks of life will be sponsoring more teams in different aspects which will make our league even more competitive...

I say big up to the PSL, if it does well & continues to grow, our teams benefit...

Now it's up to the teams that have been fortunate to secure sponsorship to excel & pave the way for other teams...

Kaizer chiefs nolonger has vehicle sponsor the nissan deal ended along with the bucs 1 ended abt a season ago hence the player of the season in both teams decide no longer pockets a car, so well done to sundowns 4 clinching a deal with honda thou I hardly no a car they've recently produced
