Possible 2013 Nations Cup dates??

Posted: 2012-02-10 10:28

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations could be played between January 19 to February 10, according to Safa sources.

The tournament in South Africa must be held between January 15 and February 15, the Confederation of Africa Football said.

South Africa will pick the exact dates of the three-week event and are negotiating with African football's ruling body, with January 19 to February 10 put forward as a provisional time frame.

Delegations from Mpumalanga and the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace are in Libreville ahead of Sunday's 2012 final to lobby for their stadiums to be included in the venue line-up.

Seven venues are interested in hosting the tournament but might have to be cut. Safa sources say Soccer City will likely host the opening game and the final and there would be semifinal games in Durban and Cape Town. But the group venues are likely to be Nelspruit, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth and Rustenburg.

Safa want to make sure all the new stadiums built for the World Cup are utilisied but are not going to make use the rugby stadiums that were renovated – Bloemfontein, Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria and Ellis Park in Jozi.

Kirsten Nematandani is to take up the role of chairman of the local organising committee and the running of the tournament will be kept within Safa structures. They will not form a separate body as was the case for the World Cup.

SECOND EDITION

Let me start by saying thanks once again to Kickoff for the soccer news and updates we getting served with everyday on this site.

After some consideration and comparison between our forums and other forums e.g ****nal supporters forum it saddens me to see the huge difference in a sense that we South Africans tend to take advantage of the platform given to us to ABUSE and MISUSE the facilities by insulting our own coaches, players, opposition supporters and our team’s management. If you put yourself in the shoes of the likes of e.g Shabalala who is been called “Nyawana”, Ndulula who is been called “used condom”, and all the other guys who are been called names, how would you feel mara he???

A forum is made for us supporters to work hand in hand with the technical team for the betterment of our beloved teams. There is nothing wrong in criticizing and giving nicknames but let us do it professionally and constructively. I do not think that most players, coaches or any team management take us supporters seriously anymore because of our own doing on our respective forums, that is why most bloggers use fake/multiple usernames to logon sites.

Excuse my English, it is not my mother tongue after all.

Since SAFA invest money into lobbying to host tournaments rather than development...SAFA should co-host with some neighbouring countries with influence in CAF...bcos as things of this countries won't qualify on their own accord....

Eight! that is a true statement! we are planting our own failure by not giving confidence those the national team! its never a good thing for a player to play knowing that the nation he is actually playing for is not supporting him! enough said!

WC 2010 cut and paste schedule regarding stadiums- who said Joburg is the only city with capable might to open and close events? Give other cities a chance, we are not a 1 city country, we must circulate the wealth to develop other cities with potential like Nelspruit, Polokwane and Rustenburg... Durban has a passionate crowd, why not rule out soccercity and include Ellis Park as the major stadium for jozi? I am a proud joburger and permanent Pretorian, but I am still South African, and like I always say, unison means balancing your left with your right, and safa keeps looking at the right all the time.

Yes, so much unconstructive critism on these forums...Most of it is not needed. I believe South Africa has the Talent/Quality and the players to be the Best in Africa, i love my Country and i love my National teams.

I mean look at what kinda squad we can put together-

Khune, Josephs, Keet/Khuzwayo, etc.

Ngongca, Gaxa(Maybe needs to be replaced), Gould, Khumalo, Sangweni, Eric mathoho, Masilela, Left back replacement still up for grabs, Jali, Mokotjo, Claasen, Oupa M, Piennar, Surman, Serero, M Mahlangu, Mphela, Somma and B Grobler.

We have Top quality players, lets support them and help them reach their potential!! Go South Africa!!

JJR13: 2012-02-10 12:27

And then we have youngsters like K. Erasmus, Lebese, Punch M, Patrick P and G. Maluleka. SA in a good place in terms of player stocks...i'm just worried about the Management staff, play conservative style...i don't like it at all, to win games we need to score goals.

Rustenburg has never been a staunch supporter of soccer, remember confed cup and also world cup? It was empty, the only time the stadium was packed is when USA played England and that was it! I say cut them out and take Limpopo, Soccer city, Nelspruit, Cape Town and Durban.

Reeze: 2012-02-10 13:50

@lawrenceonline

I second you on that one my brother, Rustenburg and Cape town should just stay away, the people at North West and Cape Town are not that passionate about soccer.
Soccer City, Nelspruit , Durban , Polokwane and Bloemfontein will do it for me..

Maristo: 2012-02-10 14:12

@lawrenceonline&Reeze....you seem to have short memories..in 1996 when SA hosted the ACN most of the games had very low attendance rate....SAFA even bussed in school pupils to attends games FNB and Durban...the problem is not people not attending but the marketing thereof games....dont be fooled by the 2010 SWC attandance...people wont border to watch low rated teams....SAFA moved games away from Gauteng (esp) Johannesburg because stadiums were always empty...except i rare cases...Finally, North Werst is not a City but a province...think before you post....

Does this mean we FREE STATE PROVINCE soccer lovers will be watching AFCON at the following stadiums:

SEISA RAMABODU
CHARLES MOPEDI
ZOKA BALOI
GORBLE PARK
BOTSHABELO

or we are not going to get any games since VODACOM PARK is out of the picture.
