Veteran Maritzburg United striker Fadlu Davids has been moved up to the club’s technical team.
Davids will now serve as second assistant coach to Ernst Middendorp. The former Vasco da Gama and Platinum Stars man will also still be available to play for the team.
“We are committed to empowering Fadlu while he serves under the mentorship of the experienced Middendorp,” club chairman Farook Kadodia says.
“Not only has Fadlu been a great asset to the team as a player, he has also shown excellent leadership skills over the years and is very enthusiastic about this opportunity and what we can accomplish at Maritzburg United FC in the future.”
The first assistant coach will be former Mamelodi Sundowns and Namibian keeper Ronnie Kanalelo, who switches from his former role as goalkeeper coach at the KZN side.
The Team of Choice have also confirmed the signing of Zimbabwean striker Cuthbert Malajila, who has signed a three-year deal.
Malajila began his career at Chapungu United before moving in 2006 to Highlanders and then to Dynamos in Harare.
He won the Golden Boot in the top division of Zimbabwean football in 2007. He has also played for Tunisian side Club Africain.
In additional club news, goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters is back in full training after completing his rehabilitation from an operation on his shoulder during the Christmas break.
