De Sa: We produce the best in the country

Posted: 2012-02-09 11:16

Bidvest Wits coach Roger de Sa believes his academy's development structures produce the best players in the country, and that his youngsters will pull through for the team in the second half of the season.

Wits have lost their captain, Sifiso Myeni, to Orlando Pirates and Mark Haskins to Jomo Cosmos on loan, but De Sa reckons that the team he has at his disposal are a more than capable bunch to soldier on and produce the results.

"I have faith in these [promoted] players, otherwise they would not have been in the first team in the first place.

"Of course experience is valuable, but when you go onto the field you do not go there with your CV, you go there with your football boots and your talent only. I play whoever impresses me the most at training," he explains.

De Sa is quick to point out that his club has the best development in the country. Even with the loss of these talented players to other PSL rivals, Wits has a never ending production of talented youngsters, and De Sa insists he is not concerned by the departure of past heroes.

The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper reckons clubs need to be more intelligent when it comes to their funds and their spending.

"Wits is in a very good economic situation, we get subsidised for the players," he says.

"Everybody knows that Wits is the best financial club in the country, we pay well but we cannot throw ridiculous large sums of money just to keep a player who we produced."

He further emphasises that he will not change his philosophy of not chasing household names in the search for instant success.

"My entire squad is two-thirds of the Wits Development side, we have produced players who have shone before and I am confident we will again.

"It does not make sense if we buy a player for R5-million while the prize to win the League is only half of that."

A player who has found himself at Wits after the conclusion of the recent transfer window is Masibusane Zongo, who many will view as a direct replacement for Myeni.

You're spot-on Roger. Some clubs across some river in SA spend just for showing off that there is money available.

De Sa, you have a big mouth man, dont trumpet for yourself, let it be others who praise your development. Having said that, aquiring big name players also build the team's brand. As far as the best development is concerned, I will say pirates has the best development, its just difficult for the youngsters to break into the first team because there is pressure for them to perfom and win trophies instantly.

Tshwane Derby: 2012-02-09 11:48

If that's the case Mr De SA, win the league with the best you've produced

Mamoduwe : 2012-02-09 12:12

But Mr. Roger De Sa you took the very same team to Mvela some time back with similar products you're praising today, strange enough you jumped ship to Santos when the Wits management gave you a mandate to return the team the premiership. Gave us a break you've got a bad CV already. Another thing how old is BidVest Wits? Why pride yourself with only financial status? This is what made me pull away my affliation for The Gunners.

Lets wait and see, where will Wits be on the log at the end of the season.Wits will be fighting relegation.
@NaturenaPrince
Dont compare yourselve with Wits. U wanted Myeni,Erwin Isaacs,Goud,Laffor so your problem was finance.

Wits will be fighting relegation ,like other years, come end of the season. They always start like house of fire. You just boast cause Pirates bought your player.Next season is Pungwayo. Just give him some lesson,so that we can only brush him.Money is going to win Pirates a league and Nedbank.
We know this monkey song of yours.

thank u Roger 4 giving South African kids a chance 2 showcase their talent unlike my team Kaizer chiefs which prefer foreign players then our players. Fact Myeni first went on trial @ Chiefs without proper boots an he was chased away n he went 2 Wits he underwent trial and roger De Sa took him and made him a player dat you see today

letsogo odirile sydney : 2012-02-09 13:00

that is true mr de sa, is important that teams must learn from wits. If a player thinks the media makes him a star, sell him. U are the one who gains, that is how bussines is run.

Sir Collin : 2012-02-09 13:09

I agree wit u Roger bt abt buyng a 5million player o wrong. If wits had many demanding supportas, u wer gonna buy it bt bcos at wits top 8 is their best achvment u cnt spend dat knd of amount. At the big teams 2nd positn is total fail.

Yellow i remain til roger win da lig with his develpment players

sabelo: 2012-02-09 13:31

Rodger is correct, but i still want to know who developed Sifiso Myeni.

Ndumza : 2012-02-09 13:48

People are quick to point at the price tag. its the value of a player that counts and in return it makes profit for that particular team. Take Real, Baca, Man U, Chelsea to name a few, are they mad? That's why Wits will stay like this if they do not change their philosophy.

Siviwe : 2012-02-09 14:33

Ur time has come "Zizou"Zongo.Wits is a good platform for you.Go there and make EC proud!

!!abijan95! : 2012-02-09 14:41

You are right Roger @ Wits is all about prise money @ Pirates is all about making history. That's why Khoza gave almost all money Pirates won last season to players, R28 Millions to some people is nothing Roger, if Pirates buy players is for history not profit.

The 0 : 2012-02-09 15:59

Bull Myeni cum from Harold Jesqueen legodi's academy mxm u think we don't know

Hlabarinto: 2012-02-09 16:53

"It does not make sense if we buy a player for R5-million while the prize to win the League is only half of that." i like this line and it also apply to those ridiculous CAF cmpetitions.

TP : 2012-02-09 20:31

De Sa!U basically confirm my statement abt Chiefs not wanting to spend, which I posted last week because they feel they can rather safe sponsorship money than having a huge wage bill & when Pirates lift trophies, the motaungs earn their own interests on savings.

sliyce : 2012-02-16 22:18

Count your money we will count money and trophy's up the ghost
