Ghana captain John Mensah promises Black Stars comeback after Nations Cup loss

Mensah promises Ghana comeback

Posted: 2012-02-09 10:49

Ghana captain John Mensah claims the Black Stars will bounce back from yet another bitter Africa Cup of Nations disappointment, after their semi-final defeat to Zambia.

Ghana played their best football in terms of possesion, but Zambia proved deadly in front of goal and earned a famous victory, prolonging Ghana's 30-year wait for the Nations Cup trophy and leaving question marks over whether the generation led by Mensah can ever win a major trophy for Ghana.

But the Ghana captain reckons they can, and was at a loss to explain the reason for the team's failure.

"It's unlucky that we lost this game. We promise them we will come back strongly next year," Mensah says, clearly hurting after seeing their title dream vanish.

"We are sorry for the whole of Ghana for what happened today. We gave everything that we could."

Bounce back from where, with 2 and half strikers? Your country dont have strikers. Go down to the root and look for strikers. When we Nigerians, your Senior brothers advise you now(because we have been there), your journalist, Michael Oti Adjei will say unconvincing Ghana? who cares? I think he cares now. Go and search for strikers

What goes around comes around. At the 2010 AFCON in Angola, Nig played far better than Ghana, but were unlucky against the utterly defensive Ghanaians. Zambia paid Ghana back in their own coin! Ghana is an expert in 1 - lucky goal tactic, but unfortunately, Zambia showed that they have learned it better yesterday. Congrats! the Chipolopolos.

Haven't still heard that boastful Ghana FA chairman talking, why?? is he ashamed now? lol. I wonder which nation on earth hasn't have an up and down in game of football and just because yours has being fortunate, you want to taunt others that has achieved so much because of one non-qualification.

Bounce back??? The same injury prone mensah. B stars should better start looking for replacement. I wonder how una go take bounce back. The so called youngsters in ur team couldnt even match the strenght of the oldies in zambia team. Or did they just falsify their ages??? hmmmmm. Now that SE is not there, someone will take the bronze home. I dont see Mali leaving it 4 u guys

@Kerewa
I can't stop laughing after reading this your post, funny indeed.

As I read through comments I can not help but laugh at some hilarious ones. Well, Zambia is in finals and most likely will grab the cup. I am happy they were regarded as underdogs but has silenced pride pumped big teams. How I wish it was Nigeria and Zambia in the finals! We've always wanted to take revenge. I think the tag put on us as underdogs partly explains our success. We take one game at a time. We play with calm and as a united team, without no big names to spoil game plan. Africa, soccer should not separate us, its a just a round pieces of leather pumped with air! Egyptian scenario must be avoided at all costs. Africa unite. B4 I 4get Zambia is ready to forgive Emmanuel Amunike for his careless talk.

Mr "meg7113" you are lucky that it was ghana you met"Nigeria will remain your senior brothers in football. Remember we beat you at the last afcon held in Angola and it was also the "Super Eagles that beat you in the Tunisia94 afcon. What about the friendly at Abuja before the start of the afcon. Please don'y liken the "Super Eagles" with the Black Stars even though we did'nt qualify for the afcon, the blackstars could'nt also beat Guinea that stop our qualification.

Podium: 2012-02-09 17:46

He thinks other countries will sit and fold their arms when they come out strong at the next afcon. He (John Mensah) should start praying for the other big teams don't still qualify for the next afcon and of course Ivory coast and Zambia joins others like Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroun, South Africa, Guinea, Tunisia and Botswana and not qualify. Then he can "come out strong" to win the next edition of afcon "opetu" otherwise he should wait for another 40years or more before he can come as a grandfather to win the afcon.

k naaba: 2012-02-09 17:50

WHAT HE MEANS BY BOUNCE BACK IS THAT WE WOULD AIM FOR THE ULTIMATE TITLE COME NEXT YEAR.
Ghanaians dont wanna win a 3rd place medal. WE keep getting Those in the last 30 years and WE ARE FRUSTRATED INDEED. COME NEXT YEAR, GOD HELP US TO BREAK THIS JINX. AMEN.
