Pirates reveal CAF squad

Posted: 2012-02-07 10:42

Orlando Pirates have revealed the 23-man squad they registered with CAF for their Champions League campaign.

The only South African side to win the Champions League back in 1995, Pirates will meet Angolan outfit CRD Libolo in the first leg of the preliminary round at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on February 18.

Bucs’ new signings such as Luis Boa Morte, Sifiso Myeni, Thandani Ntshumayelo and Njabulo Manqana are not eligible to play until at least the group stages when Pirates will be able to register more players.

The reigning PSL champs would then meet Nigerian side Sunshine Stars in the first round if they beat Libolo.

The full squad:

Goalkeepers: Moeneeb Josephs, Senzo Meyiwa, Gertulio Vargas
Defenders: Lucky Lekgwathi, Siyabonga Sangweni, Rueben Cloete, Sibusiso Mxoyana, Rooi Mahamutsa, Bheki Nzunga
Midfielders: Tlou Segolela, Dikgang Mabalane, Daine Klate, Andile Jali, Isaac Chansa, Oupa Manyisa, Rudolf Bester, Benson Mhlongo, Boubacar Talatou
Forwards: Thulasizwe Mbuyane, Ndumiso Mabena, Bongani Ndulula, Benni McCarthy, Tokelo Rantie.

Let the supporters of a team that has done badly in this competition not comment to avoid embarassing themselves. The must wait until KO writes something about Macufe cup.

Everyone in a Pirates squad is equally impeccable, The Dream Team indeed.

Gertulio Vargas

Viagra still there- Lilian shud try him so we can assess if his appointment is similar to Pitso's- but this wont worry us as this club belongs to the municipality of Orlando and cowza can do whatevr he likes!

Dooba OPC: 2012-02-07 11:01

@ Dooba OPC,

Very soon you will be missing Nyirenda, Lekone Lekone or any other flop. Live in the present & get joy from the likes of Masango & Sibeko or just fire Bobby, VV, Madam, captain committe or yourselve from the cabbage farm.

Thz kangaroos are jus honouring the games afterall they will suffer a lot. They won ds Cup in their 58th year,so they must wait for another 58yrs maybe.

Mhlangenkosi365: 2012-02-07 11:57

I will never supporter ds useless Old team,Never! They've already shown the signs of a failure in a friendly played on Saturday while at Home. Yeerr...Down The Bugs!

KING?: 2012-02-07 11:58

There is experience in this team.

Bennie has been there before
Jali has done it.
Chansa will be very key and Talatou
Sangweni has been there as well.
Klate has been there as well with SSU.
Ndulula has been there with the under 23

Let the GALAXY OF STARS teach SA how to play football in AFRICA.

If there was players i wished for, it would be Teko and Mabizela.

Laaste Khosi: 2012-02-07 12:03

This is really an ugly team. Ugly emblem, ugly Chairman, ugly players, ugly supportes.

TP : 2012-02-07 12:14

King!what has Jali done?

He played a few games for Bafana & you feel has done it?

I'm not taking anything away from him as a player but he doesn't have the experience you are giving him.

That is the same problem I lament on our players here in South Africa.

They don't get opportunity to play at juniors in Africa & if some of this players are released for U23,they could have that experience b4 Bafana.

You guys then blame Pitso for the injustices done by team bosses, failing to develop players.

Mhlangenkosi365: 2012-02-07 12:15

You cant tumpa anyone for supporting your opponent you mfan'embuzi.

TP : 2012-02-07 12:19

Andile Jali has undoubtedly being performing well but if you look at his international CV,he has never been a regular at U23,amazingly he's not long past that U23.

You then ask yourself why will this players fail to play at U23?

KING?: 2012-02-07 12:25

TP: I am sure you are aware that Jali was a key player in the national under 20 Serame's team, was the competition in SA, should i mention his role with the under 23.

Jali was in the camp to Brasil and Germany with Perreira.

Jali has been a key player for Pitso .

should i continue Bra.

Nipsy: 2012-02-07 12:28

From 1995 to 2012 is 17 years, so Orphans have to wait for another 23 years before they can atleast reach the semi finals of the cheap champions league. It is not that far atleast some of the the idiots will be dead by then.

AT BUCS WE CONQUER, NO SURRENDER
IN GOD WE TRUST - thats our Dollar.

TP : 2012-02-07 13:00

King!

I would like to see more of South African good players in our national setup.

Yes Jali was part of U20,but for how long?

If players like him played for U23,we could have made the olympics.

Going to a camp in Brazil & Germany cannot really be looked at playing competitive but rather integration of fringe players into a setup.

KING?: 2012-02-07 13:03

TP: stil awaiting your response.

Thanks to Sundowns fans and other PSL team except for Kaizer Chiefs hobos who are making it our fault that their chairman has gone broke.

Kaizer Snr looked good in the 75th anniversary jersey.

Kaizer Snr, Jomo and Mashaba are true Bhakaniyas.

mhlanga: 2012-02-07 13:07

MaBhakaniya, this a fairly good squad but I'm scared we don't cover on the left back and you know how we are treated in the continent. Don Matera was right when he said Pirates is a way of life! Who can sispute that? Only an empty vessel can sipute that...Bhakajuju

I fully agree with Champ, people like Foola opc(ou plaas chimp)will miss every jik and jill, tom and harry that played and offered nothing to this herbex fc. unlike them we go and face the challenges we had and not withdraw everytime we had to play in AFRICA

This team looks poor.
Rattex in association with black label is giving away 100 fully loaded AK47 and a buckets of pigs intestine. Simply answer the following question. What is a secret that was used by pirates to win the lig.

A) umuthi
B) lucky
C) amazinyo
D) ububi

TP : 2012-02-07 13:51

King!

I did give you a response.

Just to add on my response:If you can take Jali overseas now, precisely to EPL he won't make it.You know why?because he hasn't played enough games for Bafana to qualify for a work permit.

Orlando Pirates & Bafana bafana could have benefited a lot more if Jali & other players like Myeni were consistent regulars at junior level for South Africa.
