Unlike last season when they faced Mamelodi Sundowns in their opening match, Pirates this time have been handed a seemingly easier draw.

"We can’t choose which team to play but I think it’s a good draw for both teams. We know the area [KwaZulu-Natal] always produces good players and teams that play good football. We will give the team the respect they deserve, but we will be victorious.” The coach will rely on his 'spies' in KZN to help overcome their opponents. "We have a lot of good players who played in finals last season and have learnt how important it is to win this tournament. We will engage our spies on the coast; as you know that the Nedbank Cup has got its surprises. But if you know your opponents and you know yourself you are in the good position to win the game." The Buccaneers are chasing their third trophy this season after already winning the Telkom Knockout and MTN8 tournaments. Pirates won three trophies last season and part of their ambition this year is to also win the CAF Champions League. "We are not going to give priority to any competition as all of them are very important. We will take it one match at a time and apply the same strategy to win the treble again this season," Leal says.
