Few people will argue that the League champions will come from the top five teams at the halfway mark. So here's what their coaches feel about their prospects for the second half of the season:
Johan Neeskens, Mamelodi Sundowns
"We have to pick up where we left off in the last League match when the season restarts. We have only five months to go untll the end of the season, and it's going to be a very tough period not just for me but for each and every one of the 15 teams in the PSL. From now on, every game will be very important and as difficult as the next.
"My wish for the season is for the team to keep playing attacking, attractive football while winning matches."
Gavin Hunt, SuperSport United
''Our finish to last year was disappointing, but we are not out of anything yet. We have Sibusiso Zuma and John Arwuah coming back from injury and it will be like two new signings for us; add the two we have signed [Franklin Cale and Mabhuti Khenyeza] and we have four players capable of going into the starting line-up.
"There is still a long way to go so our intention is to take one match at a time and be involved in the shake-up. We're not even worried about ending the campaign against Chiefs, Pirates, Sundowns and Celtic … our only focus is the Free State Stars match [on February 15]. In this League you can't get ahead of yourself, but the champions will come from the top four teams.''
Vladimir Vermezovic, Kaizer Chiefs
''I am very satisfied with some players' progress this season. George [Lebese] finally started to play like I know he can play, and I am very glad that this guy is part of the Bafana Bafana set-up. But I would have loved to see him and the likes of Lucky Baloyi and Mandla Masango in London for the Olympics. This would have helped their development and of course it would have benefited the team in the long-run.
"We have set clear objectives for 2012; among them to win the League, and I would like to urge the fans to continue rallying behind the team through thick and thin. We are stronger when we work in unity, and with our supporters backing the team as a 12th man, everything is possible.''
Gordon Igesund, Moroka Swallows
"From our point view I'm very optimistic and very happy with how we did in the first half of the season. This season was always going to be about consolidation, and our goal remains to fight for a top-eight place.
"In terms of our squad I'm very happy with what I've got. We used up our budget to make drastic changes last season, so I haven't put pressure on our chairman [Leon Prins] to sign any players."
Julio Leal, Orlando Pirates
"We have done very well in the cups, but not very much in the League. We needed to beat Golden Arrows to close the half-season. As defending champions we needed to be closer to the teams at the top, and for the final sprint from now up to the end of the season.
"We have a good squad but it is difficult sometimes to replace three, sometimes five players simultaneously."
