Dolphins players embark on strike

Posted: 2012-02-03 10:13

Players of cash strapped Nigeria League champions, Dolphins will not report for training after Sunday's league game against Gombe United.

The players are not happy that they are owed more than 20 match winning bonuses from last football season and three from the on going season.

One of the players told kickoffnigeria.com under the condition of anonymity that after serving notice of their strike action to the management of the team two weeks ago nothing has been done.

"Its sad that they can treat the league champions like this. Its like someone has forgotten that we are representing the country in this year's CAF Champions League," he said.

He posited that the players have resolved that they will not step on the training pitch from Monday until they are paid.

"We know it will affect us negatively but what can we do? We served notice of this two weeks ago and have done our job seriously winning one nil against Rangers and three nil against Kaduna United.

"We are going to play the Gombe United game with all our hearts but if we are not paid by Monday morning I do not see anyone reporting for training."

Dolphins start their CAF Champions League campaign with a road trip to Sony Ela Nguema in Equatorial Guinea.

They are not owed sign on fees and salaries but the match bonuses have not been paid in 23 games now.
